Giving Rupee a Second Chance
A rescue from a dire situation
Rupee, a five-year-old black and white long-haired cat, came into the care of the RSPCA South London Branch under heartbreaking circumstances. Alongside his siblings, he was discovered in a home facing eviction. The cats had not been properly socialised, making them fearful and difficult to handle. Rupee, in particular, was extremely wary of people, and rescuing him proved to be a significant challenge.
A cat in crisis
The dedicated team immediately set to work getting Rupee the help he desperately needed. After being examined by their vet, they began treatment to address the flea and tick infestation and tended to his matted fur. His condition was distressing and required immediate veterinary attention.
Intensive care and a difficult recovery
Thanks to the grant funding, they were able to begin Rupee’s treatment right away. The veterinary team addressed the flea and tick infestations and carefully removed the painful mats from his fur. However, Rupee’s journey was far from over. He found foster care overwhelming and spent most of his time hiding. During this period, he developed an eye infection where removal was sadly the only option.
A familiar face brings hope
Finding a permanent home for Rupee was complicated by his lack of socialisation and ongoing medical needs. Just as the rescue was beginning to worry about his future, a local woman who had helped catch him came forward. She had known Rupee from the neighbourhood and offered to adopt him. This was the perfect solution—Rupee could remain in familiar surroundings with someone who already had a bond with him.
A new chapter begins
Today, Rupee is still adjusting to his new life. He spends much of his time outdoors but is gradually exploring his new home. His progress has been remarkable, and we are optimistic that he will continue to grow more comfortable and eventually settle indoors.
The rescue said, “Thank you for being a part of Rupee’s journey and for supporting our mission to give every animal a second chance at happiness.”
The impact of your support
The £11,000 grant they received from the Foundation made a direct and meaningful impact on Rupee’s life and the lives of 69 other pets in their care. It enabled the local RSPCA branch to cover essential veterinary treatments and boarding costs, ensuring that animals like Rupee receive the care they need to recover and thrive.
Your donations make grants like these possible. Please consider donating to help more pets like Rupee.
