Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary
Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is based near Ramsbottom, and since the 1950s has been caring for homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and many other animals. The charity rehomes over 450 dogs every year – and all those dogs need a lot of exercise! Sadly Bleakholt’s dog runs were badly in need of a facelift; crumbling concrete, rusting metal and rotting wood created an unpleasant and unsafe environment for dogs and their carers.
Pets Foundation gave the charity £100,000 to transform their dog exercise areas, creating four brand new runs, six doggy gardens and a new sensory area. The dogs have plenty of space to run and play, with lots of interesting plants, equipment and toys to investigate. Long-stay residents Lola and Hunny were the first to enjoy the new facilities, which will improve the lives of hundreds of dogs in the years to come.
