When Lady arrived at Hector’s House Cat Rescue in Torquay with her 14-day-old kittens, she was in urgent need of help.
Suffering from severe mastitis and significant pain, Lady required immediate veterinary treatment alongside a safe, calm environment where she could recover while continuing to care for her young family.
Fortunately, thanks to support from Pets Foundation, Hector’s House had recently installed purpose-built cat pens designed to provide safe, temperature-controlled and hygienic spaces for cats in their care.
These specialist facilities enable the team to closely monitor vulnerable cats, support their recovery and provide the highest standard of welfare during rehabilitation.
For Lady, the impact was life-changing.
With access to immediate veterinary treatment and a secure recovery space, she made a full recovery. Once she was well enough, Lady found her forever home, and all of her kittens were successfully rehomed too.
Supporting cats across Devon
Since 2020, Hector’s House Cat Rescue has been transforming the lives of stray, abandoned and vulnerable cats. The charity now helps hundreds of cats each year and, with previous support from Pets Foundation, was able to open its first dedicated rescue centre.
More recently, Pets Foundation awarded £50,000 to Hector’s House to help expand its outreach programme, supporting local cat owners with neutering costs and transport to and from veterinary appointments.
The funding is helping the charity reach more cats before they end up in crisis, while continuing to provide vital rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming services for those already in need.
A grant making a lasting difference
Reflecting on the impact of the funding, Zara Oldfield from Hector’s House Cat Rescue said:
