At Pennine Pen Animal Rescue, every pet that arrives has their own story. Some have experienced neglect, some have been abandoned, and others simply haven’t had access to the care they need.
Thanks to grant funding of £10,000 towards veterinary treatment, Pennine Pen is getting extra support for the pets in its care. By helping to cover vital veterinary costs, the funding has enabled the rescue to focus on each pet’s recovery, rehabilitation and journey to a loving home.
From Fear to Trust: Albie’s Story
When Albie arrived at Pennine Pen Animal Rescue after being found tied to a fence, he was frightened, confused and in poor condition. He was severely underweight, had flaky skin and bald patches, and his nails had become painfully overgrown.
With patient care, gentle handling and plenty of reassurance, Albie gradually began to relax. Funding towards his veterinary costs helped provide essential treatment, including vaccinations, anti-parasite care and castration, while daily nutritious meals helped him regain weight safely.
Over time, Albie’s confidence grew. He learned to trust the people caring for him, enjoyed his walks and playtime, and began to understand that he was safe.
Today, Albie is thriving in his new adoptive home, enjoying the happy future he deserves.
Side by Side: Daisy & Luna’s Journey
Daisy and Luna arrived at the charity as a bonded mother-and-daughter pair who had spent their lives together. At 12 and 10 years old, keeping them together was a priority.
Veterinary examinations revealed that both dogs needed significant dental treatment, while Daisy was also diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease following the discovery of a Grade 4 heart murmur. She now requires lifelong medication to manage the condition.
Support towards veterinary costs enabled Pennine Pen to provide the dental treatment both dogs needed, as well as investigate and diagnose Daisy’s heart condition. This ensured they received the care they needed while the team focused on finding them a suitable home.
Finding adopters willing to take on an older bonded pair can be difficult, particularly when one dog has ongoing medical needs. Thankfully, Daisy and Luna found a loving home together and are now enjoying life side by side.
From Outbuilding to Forever Home
Schmidt came into rescue as a tiny kitten after being found living in an outbuilding with his mother and sibling.
Despite his difficult start, Schmidt quickly showed his playful, affectionate personality in foster care. While waiting for a home of his own, he received the veterinary and preventative healthcare every young kitten needs. Some of the treatment included vaccinations, parasite treatment and microchipping.
Funding helped provide Schmidt’s essential healthcare and cover future neutering costs when he is old enough.
Before long, Schmidt’s cheeky character captured the heart of his new family. He has now been adopted into a loving forever home.
Relief, Recovery and a Brighter Future for Lou Lou
Lou Lou arrived at Pennine Pen Animal Rescue as a stray and was clearly suffering from the effects of neglect.
Her coat was severely matted and pulling painfully on her skin, leaving it sore, inflamed and uncomfortable. Her nails had also become so overgrown that walking was difficult.
Following a veterinary examination and welfare groom, Lou Lou received treatment for her skin condition. This included regular baths using a specialist medicated shampoo. Her overgrown nails were trimmed, immediately improving her comfort and mobility.
The grant funding helped us with her veterinary treatment and care. It helped give Lou Lou relief from the discomfort she had been living with and allowed her recovery to begin.
As her condition improved, Lou Lou’s wonderful personality shone through. Friendly, sociable and full of life, she quickly became a favourite with everyone she met.
The difference one grant can make
Support with veterinary costs helps pets receive treatment when they need it most. This can include emergency treatment, dental procedures, vaccinations, microchipping and ongoing medical care.
By covering essential costs, the grant helps Pennine Pen Animal Rescue focus on each pet’s recovery. It also supports rehabilitation and preparation for a loving home.
For Albie, Daisy, Luna, Schmidt and Lou Lou, that support helped create brighter futures. It gave them the chance to recover, thrive and find loving homes.
