Every animal that arrives at a rescue centre brings a different story – and sometimes unexpected challenges.
Hope Pastures received a Pets Foundation grant to help cover vital costs including veterinary treatment, food and bedding, utility bills, equipment, and building work.
One animal benefiting from this support is Ghost, who arrived at Hope Pastures frightened and wary of people. It took more than two hours to bring him to safety and, at first, he wouldn't accept food, treats or human contact. The grant helped cover his intake costs, including vaccinations, blood tests, a passport, microchip, worming treatment and veterinary care.
Today, Ghost is learning to trust through gentle handling and positive reinforcement, taking small but important steps towards a brighter future.

Thank you so much for your support. It makes a huge difference to our small charity. We have been able to cover intake costs for so many ponies like Ghost who come to us scared and untrusting but settle and relax once they realise they are in a place of love and safety. A huge congratulations to our Pets colleague Piotr, who completed his open water swimming challenge last month! 🌊🏊
Despite large waves and 15°C water temperatures, Piotr swam even further than his target distance, finishing in an impressive 52 minutes.
After the event, Piotr said:
"I really enjoyed it. I ended up swimming more than my distance, but in 52 minutes my result was fantastic for such a big lake with large waves and 15-degree water temperature! It was a great achievement that I am proud of. It was a good experience to fundraise money towards the Pets Foundation. Overall, I am very happy and joyful. Thank you for helping me to take part in such a great event."
Piotr has raised over £290 for Pets Foundation to help support pets and people in need across the UK. 👏

With the help of our grant, RSPCA Norwich has been able to provide vital veterinary treatment for hundreds of cats and dogs in its care.
One of those pets was Dexter, a lurcher who arrived underweight and lacking confidence after a difficult start in life. With veterinary care, patience and support from the team, Dexter slowly learned to trust again and eventually found his forever home with a loving family.
Every pet deserves a second chance, and we're proud to support organisations like RSPCA Norwich as they help pets recover, rebuild and find the loving homes they deserve.
